I chose this article because is the one that grabbed my attention the most. Also because as soon as I heard the title I had my answer, it came quickly. The concerns that the author has about this topic is that kids might lose sleep texting. Also by when they are going to sleep someone might text them and they might wake up in the middle of the night. Also because they can be texting in school not paying attention. This causes them to fail quizzes and tests. The benefits of texting are that when there is an emergency it can get to you quick. Im in charge of texting even though I do it a lot I do not go over the line! >>

  2. I chose this article to read because I wanted to figure out what psychologists think about us teenagers and texting. Some concerns that I think the author may have is if teenagers are able to control themselves when it comes to texting. Some benefits of texting are texting may be used for emergencies or a topic that is really important. Also to get in contact with other people. I am in charge of texting because I know when to turn off my phone and know how to turn it back on when neccesary. Also because for me texting is not really a big thing in my life, its mostly internet. A important detail that I found in the article is if you cant turn off your phone without a problem, then YOU are the one with the serious problem!

  3. I would have to agree with you Evandro because thats is really the main reason the author is worried about if teenagers can control themselves when it it not important.

  4. I chose this article, because texting is something that i do everyday, and if there was really something wrong about texting. The concerns that the author might have about texting is the fact that excessive texting can lead to things such as interrupted sleep and thumb injuries. Benefits from texting are that adults as well as teenagers are able to socially bond with others. To answer the question "are you in charge of texting or is texting in charge of you?" I am always in charge of texting even if I texting a lot.

  5. When I read this article, I was totally interested in what psychologists have to say about young adolescents texting. Therefore, I have to agree with Junelle with how psychologists approached the topic. I also agree with Junelle on how the author has a main concern on teenagers texting. The author clearly is concerned about teenagers having the ability to control themselves on how much time they spend texting.

  6. I agree with Junelle when she said that if you can’t turn off your phone you’re the one with the problem. I believe that it is true that there are injuries and kids need to stop texting a lot because it can hurt you later on. I really don’t think most people can control texting because I bet that they would chose texting over work or such. (Haha)

Well to start off, texting is not bad at all. But when you keep on texting it is going to get out of hand. I choose this article to write about because all of my friends from out of school text all day, class, whenever you name it. Then when grades come they do badly. Then they get grounded. Then i can’t hang out with them. Some concerns that the author might have about texting is that it is really getting to their mind. They need to slow it down. Well there are some benefits of texting. You can keep in touch with your family; you can talk with other about important things. Texting is not in charge of me. What I really like about what the author said is that “It’s too much when it starts to interfere with other activities in your life, like school, homework etc.” I think this is important because when it comes to Christmas you want to pass to get presents but your grades are bad.

  8. subryan well i have to agree on what dehna said about texting. I like the fact that she pointed out that excessive texting can lead to things such as interrupted sleep and tumb injuries. This is the main reason why they are concern

When i read this article I was shocked. I agree on what junnel said about young people texting. Also that texting also has benfiets. Like telling someone about emergence.

I chose this article because it grabbed my attention. Also I chose this article because many teens like to text to their friends. The concerns that the author might have about texting is that teens would never want to let them go and that teens won’t get a lot of sleep. The benefit of texting is that it allows teens to form social bonds with ease. Also with texting you can stay connective with your friends and family. Texting isn’t that bad for you but you just need to know how to control it. I’m in charge of texting because I know how to limit my texting. In the article the author says that many teens don’t pay attention in their class. I believe that it’s our decision to focus in class or to talk to other students. I agree with what Emily Gonzalez wrote saying that she was interested in what psychologists have to say. I was also interested in what the psychologists had to say about texting. I also agree with what Evandro Castillo said that he got his answers from the title and from the passage. As I was reading the passage I got my answers that I had.

  11. Dehna raise a good point people can text everyday and still have the controll to focus on work and learn to put things like that way.I guess it kind of helps that our school does not allow cell phones.B ut knowing that I don't have to worry about dehna is good to .The piont that I think was interesting is that kids would leave cell phones by their beds and let it affect the sleep. That I find crazy.GET JELP IF THIS IS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. I AGREE WITH EVANDRO BACAUSE I TEXT ALOT AND I STAY UP REALLY LATE AND SOMETIMS I DONT REALLY AY ATTATION CLASS

    ReplyDelete
  13. I agree with Junelle when she says that a benefit from texting is that it’s used to contact people incase of emergencies. Something I found interesting is that if you cannot turn off your phone when it’s time to go to bed you have a problem. The reason I find that interesting is because I never thought a person could have that as a problem but as a choice. I do agree on how psychologists say that if you cannot turn off your phone then you have a problem.

  14. I agree with Emily when she says don’t take matters in your own hands if you are being cyber bullied because you never know what the bully hands in mind for you. In other words I mean that you may want to get back at them with everything you got but the bully could be very dangerous. I appreciate it that the author clearly shows her concern for teenagers being cyber bullied because this is an issue that needs to be viewed by other people.

  15. I agree with Dehna and Janet that it good to text a lot but to be able to be in control of the texting. However when I continue to read the article it made it seem like if you text a lot, isn’t that a sign of a problem and not much control because you should be able to cut down on your texting. Although it also depends if texting distracting you like Diego Fernandez-Pages states or if it interrupts you from school work, a family life, etc. I still think if you’re texting too much that shows that texting is kind of in charge of you.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have to agree with Joshua. Texting is not that bad as long you know how to control it. I also agree with him because many teens do not pay attention in class simply for the fact that they are more worried about getting a response to the text they just wrote.

  17. The reason why i chose this article is because i text to friends and family. The concern that the author might have is that this causes students to get bad grades thumb injures and not that much sleep. The benefits of texting is that you get to keep in touch with you friends and family and that it takes less then 5 minutes to get a reply. I'm in charge of texting because as u can see that your the one in charge you can decide when to take off your phone when your friends text u late at night or tell them to text u in the morning. For me texting is not in charge of me because i have my phone on silent and it only vibrates when my alram is ringing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. i Agree with surbryan because he is right that when u do text u start to have your grades drop becuase your eithe not doing your homework or your not study for a test quiz etc.

  19. I choose this article because i was willing to hear the flaws of texting and i wanted to know if i was at risk.I think that the author is concern because he probably feels like our generation (teen) will someday just depend on texting and the use of phones will later become useless. Not to mention that texting has serious risk, such as thumb problems and lack of sleep something we all need and really much depend on.Reading this article i dicovered not only flaws but benifits, some benifits are being able to send a quick message instead of calling ever 5 minutes like what kate said on (page 7 3rd paragraph).in my opinion im in charge of texting because i have limit and i never try to attempt to break that limit. One thing i will like to point out in the article that i want everyone in the middle school to know is that there are students out there with integrity issues.Based on the article there are kids texting in class knowing its wrong and that texting is a distraction which causes bad grades.i think only you can help yourself but with the support of others it can be done much quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with junelle anybody should be able to turn off their phone and turn it on when its necessary but since this texting issue has become overwhelm its holding people back from that power button.

  21. i agree with demetria because if you cant control your texting then i dont think it is a really brilliant idea to text at all. I have a really important question to ask, who says that it only has to be teenagers who are the ones not incontrol of texting, why cant it be adults too. I find that as a little bit of a steriotype because some adults think when you hear the word teenagers that the meaning behind that word is texting overload. Isnt is possible that adults can have a texting overload too?

  22. I chose this article because it grabbed my attention. My concern that kids will only get attention with this. A friend of my is like addicted to it. Some benefits of texting is that in texting you can have a better communications with friends and family. To me I am in charge of texting because I do text but not a lot to go overboard. A piece of information that every middle school student should know is that the average texts kids ages 13 to 17 is 2,272 per month.

  23. I agree with Junelle texting is addicting. How can person such as a kid, can control them self. They lose attention into what happens in class because of texting in class.

I choose to read this article because it really did grab my attention. Some concerns I think the author has about texting is that its very bad if you get late night texts that interrupt your sleep, also that you must cutt down your texting. Some benefits of texting are being connected with your friends, and communicating with your family from far away.I am in charge of texting. texting is never charged of me.A piece of information that every middle school student should know is that If your losing sleep , or distracted in class then you should cut down on your texting.

  29. To answer your question, Junelle, I know many adults who are addicted to texting just as many teenagers are. I think that due that the article came from a Junior Scholastic magazine, the main focus is on kids and teens. I think that is just one of their ways to keep their viewers. The magazine is all about what teens struggle on in society today.

  32. I agree with everyone butt ithink mostly with joshua because all teens love txtinn including me as one of them but like joshua said texting is not to bad for people also texting is some thing people may do to change there moods and aslo people get to share things with friends that they might not want to tell them in person and also we need to learn how to control what we do becasue with texting people might have to be doing something else and they get carried away and might not get to do what they had to do like homewrok or work

    ReplyDelete
  33. The reason why i chose this article is because the other one were good but this article is something that relates to me and that i will like to talk about and what i mean by that is that i get carried away by texting because sometimes i have to do something like homework but instead i get carried away by texting and i dont finish what i have to finish and that is something that as me i have to keep in mind because i get very carried away sometimes like i just have to save texting for my own time and d it for example when i finish what i have to do and then i can start texting and also sometimes is just that we as teens can really get bored and we talk to friends.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i choose this article to read because i enjoy reading it. Also it wasnt boring to read this article and it had a lot of information i wanted to know about texting. The author concerns might have about textings is that texting may lead to host of problems like a distraction from school work and not getting enough sleep. The benefits for texting is that its quick and a easy way to stay connected with friends.Texting is in charge of me because im always texting and i cant stop.

    ReplyDelete

  37. I chose this article because the title caught my attention. It actually stuck out to me beacuse when i had unlimiteded texting, texting was in control of me.I would text any random thing to anyone even past 12 am,sometimes. Some concerns that the author might have are that texting is a big thing today and that its getting addictive to people, which isnt really good because it interups peoples lives, with school, family, etc. Some benefits of texting is that u can send someone a quick text if its an emergancy or just something quick. Instead of calling some ever five mineutes like Kate Morrissey states in the article.Im in chrage of my texting now.I wasnt before, but i controled myself and now im sure that im in charge of my texting. In the article something important people should know is that it is true that texting does interup peoples normal lives.i think its imprtant because from experience it does interup your life. You get taken away from things that are more important and you will have to go through consequences that come with it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have to say that i also agree with Joshua because texting is not so much of a bad thing, meaning people might need to contact other people for emergencys or they forgot one of their homework assignment texting wouldnt be so bad if people knew how to control themselfs

    ReplyDelete
  39. Texting can be addictive. I do agree with Melissa when she quoted that she has unlimited texting because most cell phone plans include that in their contract. I also agree with her when she says that texting interupts teens lives because once you text, it will be hard to stop texting and it will be hard to control it as well.

  41. i agree with Emily and Leenetra as well, texting can be addictive. I choose to read this article because I felt it related to me. I see that the aurthor has conserns about texting being a distraction. I think Im in charge of my texting because I keep track of my texting habbits and manage them. I found it interesting that the amount of messages sent and recived doubled from 2007 to 2008. I think it is important to acknowledge problems like these and work to solve them.

  43. I agree with leenetra and emily because people like texting and it can be really addictive. I choose this article because it grabbed my attention. It stuck out for me because im a person thats always texting. Some concerns that the author might have is that texting leads you to things for example texting distacts you in class, while you doing your homework and when you are trying to go to sleep. Some benefits of texting is that its a easier way to connect with your friends. Texting is in charge of me because i am always texting while doing something.

  44. I prefered to read this article then the others because while I was scaning the article I ran into some intresting points that the author mentioned. For instance the author mentions that teens from ages 13-17 have sent text messages in the total of 2,272 per month in the year 2008. When I read this article I was extremly shocked at the fact that teens including myself text a lot,I never imagine that the outcome of teens texting would be this much at the end.The author is really concern of the use of texting because instead of being a positive effect because the texting is a distraction. For example it distracts teens from their school work. The benefits of texting is that you could utlize your phone to talk to your friends, many things more.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with Junelle completely because some teens don't have control with their phones. On the other hand I have control with my phone because I know when its the right time to use it and the wrong time to use it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I also agree with Joshua because texting is not bad for you. You just have to be able to control yourself. Another reason is because I always wondered what the psychologists would think of relating to the issue that teens are dealing with right now.

  47. Texting is really awesome. It has some positives, like; communicating with friends, the way that almost everyone has the same communication system, such as aim and myspace. But texting also has negatives... It's like nicotine, it's addicting. I stay up as late as I can, texting to my friends. And it prevents me from getting the sleep I need.

  68. I choose to blog about this article because like Melissa said it caught my attention I read is texting to much bad for you and it made me think ....well is it? I don’t think I am addicted but I can’t say it’s not addicting. I do text and a lot but when someone points out that I need to stay focused and put away my phone I try to listen, I won’t just ignore them. There are some benefits to texting I think there is a lot of benefits. It’s a quicker way to talk to someone and it’s easy. Some people may disagree but for me I think I have a better way of saying what I feel about something or someone is by writing it out. I think texting takes control over me sometimes. Not always. I sometimes text while I eat but only when no one else is eating with me or when no one is talking. I have no problem with telling someone I’m going to sleep and to stop texting me. I don’t find texting disturbing my sleep. I do sometimes interrupt my homework to answer a text but I think that is only because I honestly don’t like doing homework. I don’t really know anyone who likes doing homework. I don’t have a problem with turning off my phone it just depends when I do it and my phone deletes my stuff when it’s turned off so I rather not. I don’t think texting is in charge of me I think I know how to keep my texting limited. Something I would like the rest of my peers to know is that we should really think about how much we are texting and we should ask ourselves do I have a problem if you do I think handing your phone off to someone for a little while might help. If you do not think so I think you should still lay down with the texting every now and then you never know when you can get addicted. ^-^

    ReplyDelete
  69. I’m just wondering why are we, I mean the youth, being picked on because of our bad habits. I’m not saying that it’s not a problem because it is, but at the same time adults are half as bad as we are. I find it funny how adults go around complaining that we are always on our phone, but then later you find they are texting worse than we are. I text a lot but I know where to do it. I see policemen asking people to put away their phones and watch where they are going but then I see them in the corner texting like little kids playing with a brand new toy. We are not the only ones over texting everyone i so why are we the ones being picked out. I think technology is good at some points but then I think it’s just taking away everyone’s real knowledge on things.
